Espíritus Inmundos-Uncleans Spirits

La película: “el Rito”, presenta a un sacerdote joven, inteligente, pero con dudas sobre la existencia del demonio. Lo envían a Roma a un curso de Demonología; como esto no lo convence, va con un exorcista experimentado de la ciudad para comprobar por la práctica la existencia de los espíritus inmundos. El exorcista advierte al joven sacerdote: “Ten cuidado Michael, porque la decisión de no creer en el Diablo no protege de él. Lo interesante de los escépticos es que siempre estamos buscando pruebas para creer, la pregunta es: ¿qué haríamos si alguna vez las encontráramos?”.

“Sed sobrios y velad. Vuestro adversario, el Diablo, ronda como león rugiente, buscando a quien devorar” (1 Ped 5 9). “Nuestra lucha no es contra la carne y la sangre, sino contra los Principados, contra las potestades, contra los Dominadores de este mundo tenebroso, contra los Espíritus del Mal que están en las alturas” (Ef 6, 12).

Pero, muchas personas no creen o minimizan la acción de estos espíritus malignos en el mundo, porque: “Una de las habilidades más grandes de Satanás en el mundo es la de inducir a los hombres a negar su existencia en nombre del racionalismo y de cualquier otro sistema de pensamiento que busca todas las escapatorias con tal de no admitir la obra del diablo” (San Juan Pablo II).

En el Evangelio de este domingo, el demonio grita a Jesús: ¿Qué quieres tú con nosotros, Jesús de Nazaret? ¿Has venido a acabar con nosotros? Porque en verdad, "El Hijo de Dios se manifestó para deshacer las obras del diablo" (CIC 394). Muchos ven con indiferencia el crimen del aborto; otros, creen que la unión entre personas del mismo sexo es bueno; que el uso de la droga es una decisión personal. El demonio, de manera silenciosa, continúa destruyendo familias, sociedades enteras, y la misma Iglesia no escapa a su acción constante; por eso, “la Escritura atestigua la influencia nefasta de aquel a quien Jesús llama "homicida desde el principio", y que incluso intentó apartarlo de la misión recibida del Padre” (CIC, 394); “sin embargo, el poder de Satán no es infinito. No es más que una criatura, poderosa por el hecho de ser espíritu puro, pero siempre criatura: no puede impedir la edificación del Reino de Dios” (CIC, 395).

Vivimos en una sociedad en la cual los espíritus inmundos continúan haciendo estragos, por eso, “se necesitan personas de fe que, con su propia vida, indiquen el camino hacia la Tierra prometida y de esta forma mantengan viva la esperanza” (Papa Francisco: La Alegría del Evangelio, 86).

¿Qué está haciendo usted para defenderse a sí mismo y su familia de la acción de Satanás?

The film: The Rite features a young, intelligent priest with doubts regarding the existence of the devil. He is sent to Rome to study a course on Demonology; as this does not convince him, he goes with an experienced exorcist of the city to verify through the practice, the existence of evil spirits. The exorcist warns the young priest: “Be careful Michael, choosing not to believe in the devil doesn't protect you from him. You know, the interesting thing about sceptics, is that we're always looking for proof... the question is, what on earth would we ever do if we found it?”

“Be sober and vigilant. Your opponent the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion looking for [someone] to devour” (1 Peter 5:8). “For our Struggle is not with flesh and blood but with the principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens” (Ephesians 6:12).

But, many people do not believe and/or minimize the actions of these evil spirits in the world, because: “One of the greatest skills of Satan in the world is to lead men to deny his existence in the name of rationalism and of every other system of thought which seeks all the loopholes so as not to admit the devil's work” (Saint John Paul II).

In this Sunday’s Gospel, the devil yells at Jesus: What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? Because in truth, “The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 394). Many see with indifference the crime of abortion; others believe that the union between persons of the same sex is good; that the use of drugs is a personal decision. The devil, silently, continues to destroy families, entire societies, and the Church itself does not escape his constant action; that is why, “Scripture witnesses to the disastrous influence of the one Jesus calls "a murderer from the beginning", who would even try to divert Jesus from the mission received from his Father” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 394); “The power of Satan is, nonetheless, not infinite. He is only a creature, powerful from the fact that he is pure spirit, but still a creature. He cannot prevent the building up of God's reign” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 395).

We live in a society in which evil spirits continue to wreak havoc, that is why: “people of faith are needed who, by the example of their own lives, point out the way to the Promised Land and keep hope alive” (Pope Francis: The Joy of the Gospel, 86).
