Between two kingdoms-Entre Dos Reinos.

“The glory of God is man fully alive” (Saint Irenaeus), but the devil is in this world to “steal and slaughter and destroy” (John 10:10). The devil motivated Adam and Eve to disobey God and thus planted the seed of sin in them and all mankind; as consequence of their sin, their son Cain killed his brother Abel. The devil filled Joseph’s brothers with so much jealousy that they attempted to kill him and finally sold him as a slave. The devil did the same thing with King Saul against David. Even before Jesus was born, the Evil One tried to kill him through King Herod.

Who inspired Hitler to persecute and kill millions of Jews? Who is the mastermind of political corruption, drug trafficking and the different terrorist groups that continue to kill innocent people around the world? The devil has been responsible for confusing the consciousness of millions of citizens and those who govern us, and so, in the name of freedom, legalize abortion and gay marriage. The reign of Satan remains active even in the interior of our Catholic Church, making all sort of scandals happen.

“So Pilate said to him, ‘Then you are a king?’ Jesus answered, “You say I am a king. For this I was born and for this I came into the world, to testify the truth” (John 18:37). Jesus is King of the Universe, but his Reign on earth happens through the life of every Christian that accepts the sovereignty of Jesus in themselves, though they may have to pay for their decision with their own blood. That is why, “our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with the principalities, with the powers with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens” (Ephesians 6:12).

As we face the problems of the world we can complain or get to work, so that with the help of God we can make the Kingdom of God prevail. For example, Saint Katherine Drexel, decided to become religious, give her life and her family fortune to the service of helping those most in need. Cesar Chavez was an American farm worker, labor leader and civil rights activist who defended the rights of workers. Martin Luther King Jr. fought to transform the discriminatory situation in which African Americans lived. Mother Teresa of Calcutta received “the call within the call” and left the commodity of her convent to help the poor while living among them. Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela have taught humanity that it is possible for a society that lives oppressed, to be free and prosperous without resorting to violence. The Kingdom of God is made present when children study every night, and couples work and take care of their children. The Kingdom of God is made present to each and every one when we decide to live and work according to God’s will.

How are you contributing to make the Kingdom of God present in this world?

“La gloria de Dios consiste en que el hombre viva” (San Ireneo), pero el Demonio está en el mundo “para robar, matar y destruir” (Jn 10, 10). El demonio motivó a Eva y Adán a desobedecer a Dios sembrando el pecado en ellos y en toda la humanidad; como consecuencia del pecado de ambos, su hijo Caín asesinó a su hermano Abel. El Demonio llenó de envidia a los hermanos de José para que decidieran asesinarlo y finalmente venderlo como esclavo. Lo mismo hizo con el rey Saúl en contra de David. Aún antes de que Jesús naciera, el Maligno intentó asesinarlo a través del rey Herodes.

¿Quién inspiró a Hitler para perseguir y asesinar a millones de judíos? ¿Quién es el autor intelectual de la corrupción política, narcotráfico, los distintos grupos terroristas que continúan asesinando personas inocentes alrededor del mundo? El Demonio se ha encargado de confundir la conciencia de millones de ciudadanos y de quienes nos gobiernan, para que en nombre de la libertad, legalicen el aborto, la unión de personas homosexuales. El reino de Satanás permanece activo hasta en el interior de nuestra misma Iglesia Católica, haciendo que sucedan toda clase de escándalos.

“Pilato le dijo a Jesús: ¿Eres tú el Rey de los judíos? Respondió Jesús: “Sí, como dices, soy Rey. Yo para esto he nacido y para esto he venido al mundo: para dar testimonio de la verdad”. Jesús es el Rey del Universo, pero su Reinado en la tierra sucede a través de la vida de cada cristiano que acepta en su persona la Soberanía de Jesús, aunque tenga que pagar esta decisión con su propia sangre. Por eso, “nuestra lucha no es contra la carne y la sangre, sino contra los Principados, contra las Potestades, contra los Dominadores de este mundo tenebroso, contra los espíritus del Mal que están en las Alturas” (Ef 6, 12).

Ante los problemas de la vida podemos lamentarnos o ponernos a trabajar para, con la ayuda de Dios, hacer que prevalezca el Reino de Dios: Santa Católica Drexel, decidió hacerse religiosa, entregar su vida y una gran fortuna familiar al servicio de los más necesitados. César Chávez, trabajó para defender los derechos de los trabajadores agrícolas; Martín Luther King, Jr, luchó por transformar la situación de discriminación en que vivían las personas de color; Madre Teresa de Calcuta, abandonó la comodidad de su convento para buscar a los más necesitados en el mundo. Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, han enseñado a la humanidad que es posible para una sociedad que vive oprimida, ser libre y próspera sin recurrir a la violencia. El Reino de Dios lo hace presente el niño o niña que estudia responsablemente cada día, los esposos que trabajan y cuidan de sus hijos. El Reino de Dios lo hacemos realidad todos y cada uno de los seres humanos, cuando decidimos vivir y trabajar según la voluntad de Dios.

Eternity-La eternidad.

“Death puts an end to human life as the time open to either accepting or rejecting the divine grace manifested in Christ. The parable of the poor man Lazarus and the words of Christ on the cross to the good thief, as well as other New Testament texts speak of a final destiny of the soul -a destiny which can be different for some and for others. Each man receives his eternal retribution in his immortal soul at the very moment of his death, in a particular judgment that refers his life to Christ: either entrance into the blessedness of heaven-through a purification or immediately, -or immediate and everlasting damnation” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1021-1022).

“Jesus often speaks of “Gehenna” of “the unquenchable fire” reserved for those who to the end of their lives refuse to believe and be converted, where both soul and body can be lost. Jesus solemnly proclaims that he “will send his angels, and they will gather . . . all evil doers, and throw them into the furnace of fire,” and that he will pronounce the condemnation: “Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire!” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1034). “Those who die in God's grace and friendship and are perfectly purified live forever with Christ. They are like God for ever, for they "see him as he is," face to face” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1023).

“Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake; some to everlasting life, others to reproach and everlasting disgrace. But those with insight shall shine brightly like the splendor of the firmament, and those who lead the many to justice shall be like the stars forever” (Daniel 12:2-3). Heaven and hell are two completely different realities. They are the final destiny and consequence of every human beings personal decision, because God is “who wills everyone to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:4).

On June 27, 1995 at 7:00 am, Publio Cordón went out for a run like he always did. He said goodbye to his wife with a hug and said “see you later Pilar. I’ll be back soon!” They would never see each other again because a few moments later he was kidnapped, and a few days after that, killed by the terrorist group Grapo. Carmen Cordón recalls how her father suffered due to the tragic death of his oldest son. Publio worked too much and did not spend enough time with his son. She shares the story of the moment she told her father she was pregnant, telling him that soon he would be a grandfather. Publio was so happy that he cried and promised her that he would devote more time to spend with him. Unfortunately this did not happen, because he passed on to eternity without having the chance to meet his grandson.

Where is your lifestyle taking you: Heaven or Hell?

“La muerte pone fin a la vida del hombre como tiempo abierto a la aceptación o rechazo de la gracia divina manifestada en Cristo. La parábola del pobre Lázaro y la palabra de Cristo en la Cruz al buen ladrón, así como otros textos del Nuevo Testamento hablan de un último destino del alma que puede ser diferente para unos y para otros. Cada hombre, después de morir, recibe en su alma inmortal su retribución eterna en un juicio particular que refiere su vida a Cristo, bien a través de una purificación, bien para entrar inmediatamente en la bienaventuranza del cielo, bien para condenarse inmediatamente para siempre” (Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica, 1021-1022).

“Jesús habla con frecuencia de la "Gehenna" y del "fuego que nunca se apaga" reservado a los que, hasta el fin de su vida rehúsan creer y convertirse, y donde se puede perder a la vez el alma y el cuerpo. Jesús anuncia en términos graves que "enviará a sus ángeles [...] que recogerán a todos los autores de iniquidad, y los arrojarán al horno ardiendo", y que pronunciará la condenación:" ¡Alejaos de mí malditos al fuego eterno!" (Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica, 1034). “El cielo es para “los que mueren en la gracia y la amistad de Dios y están perfectamente purificados, viven para siempre con Cristo. Son para siempre semejantes a Dios, porque lo ven "tal cual es", cara a cara” (Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica, 1023).

“Muchos de los que duermen en el polvo de la tierra se despertaran, unos para la vida eterna, otros para el oprobio, para el horror eterno. Los doctos brillaran como el fulgor del firmamento, y los que enseñaron a la multitud la justicia, como las estrellas, por toda la eternidad” (Daniel 12:2-3). Cielo e infierno son dos realidades completamente diferentes, y son el destino final, consecuencia de una decisión personal de cada ser humano en este mundo, porque la voluntad de Dios es que “todos los hombres se salven y lleguen al conocimiento de la verdad” (1 Tim 2, 4).

El 27 de junio de 1995, a las siete de la mañana, el empresario zaragozano Publio Cordón, salió de su casa para correr como hacía todos los días. Se despidió de su mujer con un abrazo y un: «¡hasta luego Pilar. Volveré pronto!». Ya nunca más se volvieron a ver, porque unos minutos después fue secuestrado, y unos días más tarde, asesinado por la banda terrorista de los Grapo. Cuenta Carmen Cordón, su hija, que su padre había sufrido muchísimo por la muerte de su hijo mayor en un accidente aéreo; porque, por trabajar demasiado, no dedicó tiempo suficiente para estar con él. Cuando ella le contó que estaba embarazada y que pronto sería abuelo, se puso tan feliz que lloró como un niño, y le prometió que a su nieto sí le dedicaría tiempo. Pero eso no fue posible, porque pasó a la eternidad sin conocer a su nieto.
