“Un hombre y una mujer unidos en
matrimonio forman con sus hijos una familia. Esta disposición es anterior a
todo reconocimiento por la autoridad pública; se impone a ella. Al crear al
hombre y a la mujer, Dios instituyó la familia humana y la dotó de su constitución fundamental. Sus miembros
son personas iguales en dignidad” (Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica, 2202,
2203). La familia no es un invento del hombre, ni de la Iglesia, sino de Dios
mismo.
La familia es el centro de la sociedad, la primera escuela e iglesia
doméstica; por eso, el poder transformador que posee en la Iglesia y en la
sociedad. Pero, esta es también la razón principal por la cual la institución
familiar ha sido atacada desde sus orígenes por el maligno: “Son muchas las
insidias que amenazan la solidez de la institución familiar en la mayor parte
de los países de América, se deben mencionar, entre otros, el aumento de los
divorcios, la difusión del aborto, del infanticidio y de la mentalidad
contraceptiva” (San Juan Pablo II, Iglesia en América, 46).
Todos soñamos con un mundo y una Iglesia mejor, pero: ¿Quién puede limpiar
el mundo del crimen del aborto, hacer que los esposos permanezcan unidos hasta
que la muerte los separe? ¿Inspirar en los niños y jóvenes, alegría e ilusión
por la vida, estudio, y trabajo? ¿Hacer de nuestros niños, niñas, y jóvenes,
buenos cristianos y excelentes ciudadanos? Dios, sí, pero a través de cada
familia, sin su participación y colaboración Dios no hace nada, porque “la
familia es la comunidad en la que, desde la infancia, se pueden aprender los
valores morales, se comienza a honrar a Dios y a usar bien de la libertad. La
vida de familia es iniciación a la vida en sociedad” (Catecismo de la Iglesia
Católica, 2207). No son la Iglesia ni el Gobierno los responsables de educar a
los niños y niñas, sino los padres de familia, esto “tiene tanto peso que,
cuando falta, difícilmente puede suplirse” (Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica,
2221).
Un papá estaba trabajando en su taller y su niño pequeño se acercó para preguntarle:
¿papá que estás haciendo? El trató de explicarle, pero el niño hizo la misma
pregunta, una y otra vez. Finalmente, para que el niño lo dejara trabajar el
padre le entregó un mapa del mundo para que lo armara, pensando que así lo
dejaría en paz, el niño se fue a la sala pero en unos minutos regresó gritando:
¡Terminé! El padre sorprendido, preguntó: ¿Cómo lo armaste tan rápido? En la
parte de atrás del mapa, dijo el niño, hay un dibujo de una familia, arreglé la
familia y así reconstruí el mundo.
¿Qué está dispuesto usted a hacer por su familia en el 2015?
“A man and a woman
united in marriage, together with their children, form a family. This
institution is prior to any recognition by public authority, which has an
obligation to recognize it. In creating man and woman, God instituted the human
family and endowed it with its fundamental constitution. Its members are
persons equal in dignity” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2202, 2203).
Family is not an invention of man, or the Church, but of God.
Family is the center of
society, the first school and domestic church; therefore, it possesses a
transformative power in the Church and in society. But this is also the main reason why the
family institution has been attacked from its beginning by evil: “Many
insidious forces are endangering the solidity of the institution of the family
in most countries of America, and these represent so many challenges for
Christians. Among them we should mention the increase in divorce, the spread of
abortion, infanticide and the contraceptive mentality” (Ecclesia In America,
Saint John Paul II, 46).
We all dream of a
better world and Church, but who can rid the world of abortion? Make marriages
stay together until death do they part? Inspire children and youth joy and
enthusiasm for life, learning, and work? Make our children and youth good
Christians and excellent citizens? God can, but only through every family.
Without their participation and collaboration God cannot do anything, because
“the family is the community in which, from childhood, one can learn moral
values, begin to honor God, and make good use of freedom. Family life is an
initiation into life in society” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2207). The
government and the Church are not responsible for educating children, but
rather the parents, this “is of such importance that it is almost impossible to
provide an adequate substitute” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2221).
A father was working in
his garage and his son asked him: “dad what are you doing?” He tried to explain
but his son asked him the same question over and over again. Finally, so that
his son would leave him alone to work, he gave him a puzzle of a map of the
world to build, thinking that would leave him alone. The boy went into the
living room but in just a few minutes he came back screaming: “I finished!” The
father surprised, asked: “How did you build it so fast?” “On the back of the
map,” the boy said “is a picture of a family. I arranged the family and so built the world.”
